IF Brommapojkarna may be a thing of the past in a few hours. This evening, a decision will be made at the annual meeting on whether the club should change its name to IF BP. Douglas Roos, the person behind the motion, tells DN that it is not reasonable for 1,000 female football players to be called boys. IF Brommapojkarna is one of Europe's largest football clubs with over 4,000 young players in 250 different teams and also has 700 volunteer leaders and 1,200 children in the Knatteskolan. Last autumn, the team's women's team qualified for play in Elitettan while the men's team was relegated from Allsvenskan after a qualifying loss to AFC Eskilstuna. But over the past year, discussions have been held that have not been about things on the pitch. For a while, there has been discussion about whether IF Brommapojkarna should change its name. One part of this is that the club may change its name and last year, a vote was held at the annual meeting on whether IF Brommapojkarna should be called ”IF BP” in the future. A majority voted down the decision, but now it's time again. Three new motions have been submitted regarding a name change. In the first proposal, it is proposed that the association should be called ”IF BP” in the future. Douglas Roos is the person behind the motion. He is convinced that if you ask the members, there is an overwhelming majority who want the club to be a modern association that shows where it stands on the issue of equality. Why should 1,000 female football players be called ”boys”, he said to DN last week. The second motion proposes that the club should continue to be called Brommapojkarna but that ”BP” can be used in everyday speech. The third motion proposes that the club name IF Brommapojkarna should remain, but that the association should use the abbreviation BP in its communication. The latter proposal is also the one that the current board supports. For a motion to be passed at the annual meeting, a qualified majority is required, meaning that two-thirds of the members must vote in favor. IF Brommapojkarna's annual meeting is an important event for the club and its members. It is where important decisions are made and where members can influence the club's future. This year, the name change is in focus. Will IF Brommapojkarna change its name to IF BP or will the club keep its current name? It's up to the members to decide.
