Saturday's clash with IFK Goteborg represents a direct showdown in the middle of the Allsvenskan table for IF Brommapojkarna. A win at Grimsta IP would see BP leapfrog their visitors in the standings, an enticing prospect as they currently sit 11th with 27 points from 21 games.
BP's form has been a rollercoaster this autumn. A solid win against Elfsborg was followed by a heavy 4-0 loss to Gais and most recently a 3-1 defeat to Hammarby. In that latest match against Hammarby, it was Mads Kristian Hansen who scored BP's sole goal from an Oliver Zandén assist. It is Hansen who carries the main offensive burden for the team. The left-footed right winger has seven goals and six assists so far in the Allsvenskan season.
His ability to deliver accurate crosses and place his shots has been key. He will, however, remember the earlier meeting with Goteborg on July 17th, which ended 2-1 to the home side and saw him receive a red card.
Goteborg's Changed Approach
Since manager Björklund took over, IFK Goteborg have played a more direct style. In defence, Viktor Andersson guards the goal, with Hjörtur and the recently returned Bager in front of him. The full-backs Noah and Felix have developed significantly. In midfield, all signs point to Kruse taking the holding role with Månsson as the number eight. The main attacking star, however, is Sam Larsson.
"Nine matches, seven goals and two assists," Larsson summarises his season so far. He has scored three goals and provided one assist in just the last two matches. Together with Heintz on the left, the 193 cm tall Simmelhack in the centre, and Nino Zugelj on the right, they form a dangerous attacking trio.
BP's Challenge and Opportunity
For BP, the match is about rediscovering the defensive solidity that was missing against Gais and Hammarby. Left-back Oliver Zandén will have significant defensive duties, but he has also shown an offensive edge with one goal and three assists this season. The team's squad has the capability, but consistency has been lacking.
With a very tight Allsvenskan table, where Goteborg are only two points ahead, three points at home is key to turn the trend. A recent loss to Hammarby shows there is room for improvement, but the win over Elfsborg proves the potential. Fans can follow the team's progress via our standings page.
The match will be decided at Grimsta IP on Saturday, September 19th at 15:00. For BP, the goal is clear: to use the home advantage and surprise a Goteborg side also seeking security in the upper half of the table. The form of Mads Kristian Hansen will be the key to breaking down Goteborg's defensive play.
